Finalization of the preliminary list of Okinawa’s post-war heritage buildings

Six heritage managers gathered for the final meeting to prepare a preliminary list of Okinawa’s post-war heritage buildings. Based on the seven criteria (innovation, design excellence, masterpiece of architect, technological advancement, relevance to the times, regional significance, continuity), more than 400 buildings completed between 1945 and 2000 have been listed. Our aim is not only to cover buildings featured in architectural magazines but also to create a list that allows an understanding of the development of Okinawan architecture in terms of design and technology from the post-war American occupation period to the present day through the period of reversion to Japan.
